HUNGARY, FORINT
The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF; symbol Ft)

  • 1 Forint = 100 Fillér
  • Notes are in denominations of Ft500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000 and 20000
  • Coins are in denominations of Ft5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200

Please Note: Euro is now accepted at most hotels within Hungary and some of the restaurants and shops. Make sure you check the exchange rate though as most will exchange at unrealistic rates. You can also use major credit cards in major shops and larger restaurants, but never assume without checking first. Smaller establishments cannot afford to handle cards. ATMs are available even in small cities and the coverage is good.

 

CROATIA, KUNA
The official currency in Croatia is the Kuna (HRK; symbol kn)

  • 1 Kuna = 100 Lipa
  • Notes are in denominations of kn1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5
  • Coins are in denominations of kn25, 4, 2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 lipa

Please Note: ATMs are plentiful throughout Croatia and banks, authorised bureaux de change, post offices or most hotels will exchange foreign currency. Banks are open Monday to Saturday and some banks also open on Sundays in the main cities. Major credit cards are widely accepted at the main hotels and restaurants, and may be used to draw cash from ATMs, which are widely available in Zagreb.

 

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, CONVERTIBLE MARKA
The official currency in Bosnia & Herzegovina is the Convertible Mark (BAM; symbol KM)

  • 1 Convertible Mark = 100 fening
  • Notes are in denominations of KM200, 100, 50, 20 and 10
  • Coins are in denominations of KM5, 2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10 and 5 fening 

 

MONTENEGRO, SLOVENIA AND ITALY, EURO
The official currency in Montenegro, Slovenia & Italy is the Euro (EUR; symbol €)

  • 1 Euro = 100 cents
  • Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5
  • Coins are in denominations of €2, 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents
