Day 2 – Golden Circle Full Day Tour

Reykjavik’s city centre is a maze of narrow alleys framed with old timber houses from the late 19th to early 20th century punctuated with more recent buildings. Today, you leave the city behind to explore the classic Golden Circle!

The Golden Circle Classic tour includes some of Iceland‘s most famous natural attractions. The iconic Geyser and hot springs in the Geysir geothermal area, the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall, and the stunning Thingvellir National Park.

The first stop is Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site listing and the location of the world’s oldest existing parliament. The name “Thingvellir” literally means “Parliament Plains”. This is also where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and are pulling apart at a rate of 2 cm annually, explaining the numerous rifts and fissures that crisscross the surrounding landscape.

Next, stop at the Geysir geothermal area to see Iceland‘s only erupting hot spring, Strokkur or the Churn. Strokkur keeps visitors entertained and on their toes by spouting boiling hot water and steam skywards every few minutes.

The third and last stop is the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. The impressive cascades are formed as the Hvita glacial river plunges down 32 metres (105 feet) on two levels and into a deep canyon. Its unrivalled beauty and raw power leave bystanders in awe.

The bus that will take you on this adventure is equipped with modern comforts such as Wi-FI connected computer tablets in each seat and a USB charger. The tablets included, allow you to take in an array of interesting facts about Iceland and the places being visited in a language you are comfortable with. If any additional questions arise during the trip, our onboard local host will gladly be of assistance.

Day 3 – Reykjavik

Today you will have a day of indulgence at the Blue Lagoon – one of Iceland’s most popular attractions. The Blue Lagoon is a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field, and an oasis that owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant.

We stop for a refreshing bathe or a swim in the inviting, rejuvenating and pleasantly warm mineral-rich water (36°C-38°C/100-110°F), famed for its reputed healing properties. The pool’s warm water and natural active ingredients such as mineral salts, silica and blue green algae soothe the muscles and an indoor pool and geothermal sauna are also on the site. Bathing in this surreal environment is a unique experience not to be missed.

You are free to spend the remainder of the afternoon at your leisure before meeting your fellow expeditioners this evening.

Note: Tonight’s accommodation is included as part of your cruise voyage package.
