Adelaide to Kangaroo Island

There’s a lot to enjoy today and we start off early, in order to transfer to our departure point, Cape Jervis, to meet our ferry to Kangaroo Island.

We board SeaLink’s luxury ocean going ferry the Sealion 2000 (check-in 30 minutes prior) for the 45-minute crossing to Kangaroo Island.

There’s a fabulous day of touring once we arrive to Kangaroo Island.

Highlights today include:

  • a visit to the historicPenneshaw Maritime & Folklore Museum
  • wine tasting and lunch at Dudley Wines
  • Cape Willoughby Light House for a photo opportunity

Today, we enjoy lunch at Dudley Wines.  Dudley Wines is a family owned and run business on Kangaroo Island, with around 20 acres of various varieties in their two vineyards on the Dudley Peninsula, producing a 100% Kangaroo Island product. All their wine is grown and handcrafted on the island, by fifth generation Islander, Brodie Howard.

This afternoon we drive to Cape Willoughby, the first lighthouse built in SA in 1852 before our visit to see prominent local art works and crafts at the Kangaroo Island Artworks Gallery at Baudin Beach.

We return to our hotel at the end of day, and enjoy a relaxed dinner at our group hotel.

Meals:  Breakfast ^, Lunch, Dinner
^ or boxed lunch due to early departure if necessary

Kangaroo Island

Today, there will be the contrast of Kelly Hill Caves, an impressive limestone cave system with a guided tour.  Experience the splendour of the Show Cave tour, admiring the stalactite and stalagmite formations.

We then take a leisurely stroll along the famous Koala Walk at Hanson Bay Sanctuary and observe the amazing and beautiful Koalas relaxing in the avenue of shady Eucalyptus trees. The Hanson Bay Sanctuary is the best place on Kangaroo Island to see a sustainable population of koalas in the wild.

Tip: Take your camera, water bottle and binoculars.

Travel to the natural rugged beauty of Flinders Chase National Park. A visit to the park is not complete without seeing the spectacular Remarkable Rocks.  Take a walk around these huge rocks, which have been carved into many weird and wonderful shapes by the wind and the ocean spray over many centuries.

We travel onto the natural land bridge that is Admirals Arch to look out for the New Zealand fur seals frolicking in the water and on the rocks, under the arch.

We return to the hotel later in the afternoon for some time at leisure, and then come together for a relaxed group dinner at a local restaurant.

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Kangaroo Island

After breakfast, we travel to famous Seal Bay for a stroll through a wild seal colony that is home to around 600 rare Australian Sea Lions. We then enjoy an interactive, educational and entertaining display at the ‘Raptor Domain, Birds of Prey’ show.

Enjoy lunch at a local café and then visit Kangaroo Island Spirits for three special tastings. We will also learn of how Jon and Sarah Lark set up to establish Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery.

Our final visit today is to The Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery, now the only Eucalyptus Oil distillery in South Australia manufacturing 100% pure Australian Eucalyptus Oil.

Upon arrival at Cape Jervis we will tour the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula visiting Horseshoe Bay lookout to see spectacular views over the bay and some free time to explore Victor Harbour and to pick a spot for a lunch break.

Visit Mclaren Vale and enjoy some free time. During free time, there are options to visit the Almond Train, Menz Fruit Choc Factory and Hardy’s Tintara Winery.

We return to Adelaide later in the afternoon for an overnight stay.

THE PACE  [2 out of 5]
You will enjoy this group experience with a maximum of 18 travellers. This tour is exclusively for solo / single travellers. This is a private, small group tour that is led by your coach captain.

The tour is suitable for travellers of average fitness or above. Although there are no demanding physical requirements it’s a busy tour that covers a lot in a short amount of time.

Fit to Travel Holiday Requirements

Travellers of 70 years or over will be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor.

Touring is exciting and diverse and the best way to enjoy your travels is to be sure that you meet the minimum physical requirements required for touring.

In many destinations while touring could be walking on uneven surfaces such as cobble stoned streets, need to climb steep staircases, and/or walk up hills to reach attractions. Also, in some cities tourist transport has limited options for coach drop offs and pick ups and this may mean that travellers are required to walk some distance to reach attractions or hotels, even up to 15 minutes.

Some touring may not be suitable for travellers with mobility issues and/or low fitness levels.  If unsure about your suitability for the trip please contact us to seek further advice.

It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

Breakfast will be buffet style at the hotels. This will include a variety of hot and cold food.

Once on Kangaroo Island lunch will be at a mix of wineries which will include shared platters and two course meals. Other days will be at cafes where the menus will be simple, as dining options will be limited in some areas.

Your welcome dinner will be a set menu at the Pullman Adelaide Salt Restaurant. While on Kangaroo Island, dinner will be at the hotel restaurant and you will have a two course set menu. On one night, you will have dinner at a local restaurant.

This is a private group tour with one coach captain, leading the group. The trip suits an independent style traveller, content with travelling without the additional services of a tour escort.

Your driver-guide will give direction on daily meeting times.

Sealink operates two large ocean-going ferries between mainland South Australia and Kangaroo Island, which you will take to/from Cape Jervis. This is not a private service.

Land touring is by a private comfortable air conditioned coach.  The coach size will be determined by the group size. Depending on the group size we use either a mini coach (11 seater), small coach (19 seater), or a medium coach (33 seater)

When taking the ferry across to Kangaroo Island, tour group members should be able to lift their own luggage to load and unload onto a luggage van onboard the ferry.
1 piece of checked luggage is permitted with a maximum of 20 kilograms.
