This afternoon there’s a guided tour of Cape Willoughby Light House, the first lighthouse built in South Australia in 1852 and we take in the great scenery at Pennington Bay and Prospect Hill (the highest point on Kangaroo Island). As the day ends, we make our way to American River, the location of our hotel while staying on the island. There is also the option to wander the American River Wharf and visit the Oyster Farm shop. DAY 3
Kangaroo Island
We drive to take in the natural rugged beauty of Flinders Chase National Park. A visit to the park is not complete without seeing the spectacular Remarkable Rocks. Take a walk around these huge rocks, which have been carved into many weird and wonderful shapes by the wind and the ocean spray over many centuries. We travel onto the natural land bridge that is Admirals Arch to look out for the New Zealand fur seals frolicking in the water and on the rocks, under the arch.
We then visit Hanson Bay Sanctuary for a guided tour. This is the sanctuary where so many injured koalas were being looked after and recovering from the devastating bushfires in January 2020. Lunch today is a ‘fish ‘n chips’ meal at a local hotel. We continue on, to visit the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, where you may get up close to some of Australia’s native animals.
Tip: Take your camera, water bottle and binoculars.
We return to the hotel later in the afternoon for some time at leisure, and then come together for a relaxed group dinner at a local restaurant.
