Arrive to Adelaide for an overnight stay and join your group for dinner. The next morning, we make our way to the ferry crossing for a three night stay on Kangaroo Island where you will discover unforgettable highlights of this special Island off the coast of South Australia.

Discover the history of Kangaroo Island and enjoy the incredible panorama of nature at its best.

Experience a guided beach walk at Seal Bay and the chance to see the beautiful wildlife including a visit to the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.  Visit the incredible sites; Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch plus visit the unique island distillery and sample the famed Ligurian honey.

After enjoying a stay on the island, we make our way back to the mainland and onto Hahndorf for an overnight stay. On our way there’s a stop to visit McClaren Vale with time for your own discoveries at leisure. No visit to this part of Australia would be complete without touring the Barossa Valley, and we include a full day tour with cellar door visits, wine tastings, and a leisurely lunch at a winery before the final the return and final night stay in Adelaide.

DAY 1

Adelaide

Arrive to Adelaide at your leisure. This afternoon check into our group hotel located in the city centre.  This evening meet up for a group dinner at the hotel restaurant.

DAY 2

Adelaide to Kangaroo Island

There’s a lot to enjoy today and we start off early to transfer to our departure point from the mainland at Cape Jervis to meet the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Board SeaLink’s ferry the Sealion 2000 for the 45-minute crossing to Kangaroo Island.

There is a fabulous day of touring once we arrive to the Island.  Take a leisurely stroll along the newly developed Sculpture Trail before visiting the historic Penneshaw Maritime & Folklore Museum for a guided tour, then taking a break for lunch at the local hotel in Penneshaw.

This afternoon there’s a guided tour of Cape Willoughby Light House, the first lighthouse built in South Australia in 1852 and we take in the great scenery at Pennington Bay and Prospect Hill (the highest point on Kangaroo Island). Another relaxing stop is to False Cape Wines for local wine tasting.

As the day ends, we make our way to American River, the location of our hotel while staying on the island. Time permitting, there is also the option to wander the American River Wharf and visit the Oyster Farm shop. Dinner tonight is at the hotel.

DAY 3

Kangaroo Island

We drive to take in the natural rugged beauty of Flinders Chase National Park. A visit to the park is not complete without seeing the spectacular Remarkable Rocks.  Take a walk around these huge rocks, which have been carved into many weird and wonderful shapes by the wind and the ocean spray over many centuries. We travel onto the natural land bridge that is Admirals Arch to look out for the New Zealand fur seals frolicking in the water and on the rocks, under the arch.

We then visit Hanson Bay Sanctuary for a guided tour. This is the sanctuary where so many injured koalas were being looked after and recovering from the devastating bushfires in January 2020.  We continue on, to visit the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, where you may get up close to some of Australia’s native animals. Time permitting a brief visit to the north coast of the island also.  We return to the hotel later in the afternoon for some time at leisure, and then come together for a relaxed group dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 4

Kangaroo Island  

After breakfast travel to famous Seal Bay for a stroll through a wild seal colony that is home to around 600 rare Australian Sea Lions. We then enjoy an interactive and entertaining display at the ‘Raptor Domain, Birds of Prey’ show. After lunch, a visit to Kangaroo Island Spirits for three special tastings and find out about establishing Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery. Our final visit today is to the Island Beehive for a tour, and tasting of the island’s unique Ligurian honey. Dinner tonight is at our hotel.

DAY 5

Kangaroo Island – McClaren Value - Handorf 

This morning we depart Kingscote for our scenic drive to Penneshaw to meet the Sealink Ferry back to the mainland at Cape Jervis.

Upon arrival at Cape Jervis we will visit McLaren Vale and take some free time for lunch along the main street.  There’s also the option to visit the Almond Train, Menz Fruit Choc Factory and Hardy’s Tintara Winery. We will then head to Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, where there’s time to make your own discoveries of this quaint village known for its German architecture and influence. With a stay overnight in Hahndorf you can make a plan to visit one of the local restaurants or hotels for dinner.

DAY 6

Hahndorf - Barossa Valley

Today, visit South Australia’s premium wine region, The Barossa Valley. The day is dedicated to discovering the Barossa Valley’s highlights including a visit to Maggie Beer’s Farm shop, the Barossa Chocolate Company and wine tasting. Relax at Lambert Estate with a wine tasting and lunch. Plus today, a stop at Mengler’s Hill for a photo opportunity at one of the most popular lookouts in Barossa Valley.

The evening is at your leisure. Why not enjoy pre-dinner drinks at the hotel bar and decide if you’d like to enjoy dinner in house or find a local restaurant.

Own arrangements to group hotel. Pre dinner drinks is at 6.30PM followed by dinner at 7.00PM.  We recommend booking flights that arrive to Adelaide prior to 4:30PM.

FELLOW TRAVELLERS 
You will enjoy this group experience with a maximum of 18 travellers. This is a Solos Only tour (couple free). You are welcome to join with a friend, but couples do not join this tour.

THE PACE  [2 out of 5]
This a private, small group tour that is led by your coach captain. The tour is suitable for travellers of average fitness or above. Although there are no demanding physical requirements it’s a busy tour that covers a lot in a short amount of time.

Travellers of 75 years or over will be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor.

ABOUT THE MEALS   
It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.  

Breakfast
Expect buffet style at the hotels (unless of changes due to COVID-19 that may change it to a la carte menu options).

Lunch and Dinner
Expect a variety; it may be shared platters or set menus for lunches and for dinners expect mostly set menus.

COACH CAPTAIN
This is a private group tour with one coach captain, leading the group. The trip suits an independent style traveller, content with travelling without the additional services of a tour escort.

Your driver-guide will give direction on daily meeting times.

TRANSPORT
Sealink operates two large ocean-going ferries between mainland South Australia and Kangaroo Island, which you will take to/from Cape Jervis. This is not a private service.

Land touring is by a private comfortable air conditioned coach.  The coach size will be determined by the group size. Depending on the group size we use either a mini coach (11 seater), small coach (19 seater), or a medium coach (33 seater)                                                                     

LUGGAGE INFORMATION AND RESTRICTIONS
When taking the ferry across to Kangaroo Island, tour group members should be able to lift their own luggage to load and unload onto a luggage van onboard the ferry. 
1 piece of checked luggage is permitted with a maximum of 20 kilograms.
