DAY 1

Arrive Darwin

Welcome to the Top End! On arrival in tropical Darwin, enjoy a city sights tour of the cosmopolitan city before joining your fellow travellers for free time at the colourful Mindil Beach Sunset Market to experience a spectacular sunset under the coconut palms.

There’s time to explore the art and crafts, aromas and atmosphere of the marketplace. You may like to try some fresh BBQ seafood or authentic Indian, Chinese, Greek or Japanese cuisine.

DAY 2 

Darwin - Litchfield - Katherine

Travel to Litchfield National Park, pausing to examine the amazing phenomenon of hundreds of magnetic termite mounds standing up to two metres high in a wide swathe of otherwise empty terrain. Stop at Florence Falls, a spectacular double-plunge waterfall leading to a popular swimming hole, before venturing on to tropical Wangi Falls for a swim in its large waterhole surrounded by spectacular monsoon rainforest.

Continue to Katherine, a thriving town that was originally established as an outpost on the Australian Overland Telegraph Line.

DAY 3 

Katherine

This morning, meet Manuel Pamkal to share his passion for the rich traditional culture into which he was born. There is the opportunity to purchase some local Indigenous art. Later, sit back and relax in tranquil surroundings as you cruise on Katherine Gorge. A series of thirteen deep gorges carved through ancient rock, there are many Aboriginal paintings on the sandstone walls throughout the system, some of which are thousands of years old. Discover the history and culture of the Jawoyn people, the traditional owners of Nitmiluk, as you explore the magnificent gorges with a backdrop of stunning rock-faces that change colour with the setting of the sun. Keep an eye out for freshwater crocodiles nesting along the banks. This evening, in true NT style join the Stockman’s Bush Dinner under the stars.

DAY 4 

Katherine - Kakadu

 

This morning you have the opportunity to swim in the waterholes of magnificent Edith Falls. Then pass through the mining town of Pine Creek, where buildings date back to the heady gold-rush days. Travel deep into World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park and discover spectacular escarpment, serene waterholes and teeming wildlife. Board the famed Yellow Water Billabong Cruise, spotting basking crocodiles and abundant birdlife with a local guide. Later, take a guided walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock paintings at Nourlangie, regarded as one of the premier rock art sites in the Top End.

DAY 5

Kakadu

This morning there’s the option to experience scenic flight over Kakadu. Later, visit Ubirr, another of Kakadu’s foremost rock art galleries. The paintings here provide a fascinating record of Indigenous life over thousands of years: look for naturalistic paintings of animals, traditional x-ray art, and paintings of early contact with European people. Before leaving the site, climb to the top of a nearby rocky outcrop for superb views over the floodplains and escarpment country. Celebrate your Top End journey this evening at a dinner with your new-found friends.

DAY 6

Kakadu - Darwin

Leave Kakadu this morning to return to Darwin. Keep an eye on the murky river crossings to see if you can spot saltwater crocodiles. On the way back to Darwin, it’s a fun activity, joining the Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Then the final stop is Fogg Dam, a birdwatcher’s paradise. Touring services come to an end with a drop off at our group hotel mid afternoon, for a final night of stay in Darwin.  The evening is at your leisure.

The morning is at leisure until the hotel check out time.  If you have a flight later that day after checkout the hotel can store your luggage until you are ready to depart for your onward journey.

Day 1: Commences in the afternoon with a city sights tour.  Book flights that arrive to Darwin prior to 1:30PM to join afternoon touring.
Day 7 (final day): Concludes after breakfast.

We suggest arriving to Darwin the night prior to day 1 of the tour (commencement); enjoy a leisurely morning prior to the tour commencing later that day with the city sights tour.

We’ve made arrangements so that on completion of this Top End tour in Darwin, there is the option to connect with Red Centre Discovery Tour that commences from Alice Springs.

If doing back to back tours this is the information you need to know:

  • There is a 1 day between last day of The Top End tour and the start of Red Centre Discovery tour.
    You will need stay extra 1 night in Darwin to connect with the flight Darwin to Alice Springs the next morning.
    Costs for additional nights of stay apply.

  • There is a daily QANTAS flight early morning Darwin to Alice Springs that needs to be booked and not included in tour packages.

TRIP AVAILABILITY

FELLOW TRAVELLERS  ‘SOLOS ONLY’
You will enjoy this small  group experience with a maximum group size of 20 travellers. This tour is exclusively for single-solo travellers.

NOTE: AUGUST 2021 DEPARTURE
Due to limited hotel capacity we don't expect this departure to exceed 14 travellers - BOOK EARLY TO SECURE A PLACE due to limited availability.

THE PACE  [2 out of 5]
A leisurely to moderately paced tour. You will see a lot on this tour and cover a lot of ground. There are some walks on this tour that are easy paced. Travellers of 75 years or over will be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor. 

Touring is always most enjoyed when you have a good level of fitness. A minimum average level of fitness is recommended for this tour.  If you are joining the tour we recommend that on the months leading up to the tour, that you exercise regularly, at least a few times a week, such as taking brisk walks for at least 40 minutes at a time.

ABOUT THE MEALS   
A daily full breakfast is included at each hotel of stay.

Lunches and Dinners
It is regular for most of our trips that we include welcome and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.  The dinners included will be set courses or buffets. The lunches included are Ploughman lunches (or the equivalent).

COACH CAPTAIN/DRIVER-GUIDE
This is a private group tour with one driver-guide, leading the group. The trip suits an independent style traveller, content with travelling without the additional services of a tour escort. Your driver-guide will share their knowledge of this part of our Red Centre and give direction on daily meeting times.

TRANSPORT
Private, air-conditioned transport for our group on a coach. The coach size will be determined by the final group number. For the visit to Palm Valley, a purpose built 4WD vehicle is used.

LUGGAGE INFORMATION AND RESTRICTIONS 
Vehicle Luggage Allowance

This is restricted to one medium size suitcase per person not exceeding 23kg (50lbs) in weight and 76x46x25 cm (28 .5x19.5x10”) in dimension. 

Please note: these allowances are for coach travel only and may differ from your airline luggage allowances. Please check with the airlines for weight and size restrictions on your luggage.

Hand Luggage Allowance
Hand luggage should be one piece per person and small and light enough to fit under your coach seat or in the small overhead compartment. If luggage does not fit comfortably in the overhead luggage racks, it will be stored in the coach luggage compartment whilst in transit. Please note that luggage with adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartments and cannot be accepted as hand luggage. 

ABOUT MOBILE PHONE USE / INTERNET  
Free wifi is available on the coach, please keep in mind that you will be travelling in remote areas and may not be accessible at all times.

The hotels offer free wifi except for Kings Canyon Resort, this will be at an additional cost.
