Arrive in historic Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Here we take a sightseeing tour of the colourful old town. We continue through the scenic landscapes of Bosnia to Sarajevo. Sarajevo has been influenced by a number of cultures and is a fascinating place to visit. The next stop is Dubrovnik, a real highlight of this tour. Here we have time to relax and get to know this wonderful town. With its ancient city walls, narrow cobblestone streets and colourful shops, being in Dubrovnik is like stepping back in time. 

Serene Plitvice Lakes
From Dubrovnik we head to Split and the spectacular Plitvice Lakes National Park. The park comprises 16 terraced lakes and is surrounded by densely-wooded hills. Here we take some time to enjoy the park and wander around the lower lakes – the scenery is breathtaking. 

Be Spellbound By Slovenia
Continuing through Europe, travel to Slovenia. We spend time at picturesque Lake Bled and in the charming town of Ljubljana. With its fairytale streets and colourful open air markets, Ljubljana is a real jewel of Europe. We take a tour of the pretty capital, Ljubljana and visit the beautiful Arboretum Botanical Garden.

Welcome to Croatia and its beautiful capital, Zagreb! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director this evening for a welcome drink. 

DAY 3
Zagreb 

We take a morning sightseeing tour of the city and its impressive 900-year-old Upper Town. We see the churches of St Mark’s and St Catherine’s and visit the Cathedral, the tallest building in Croatia. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the cobblestone streets at your own pace and admire its old-world graciousness and friendly, lively energy before tonight’s group welcome dinner.

DAY 4
Zagreb - Sarajevo 

Today we cross the border into Bosnia & Herzegovina and make our way to the historic capital, Sarajevo. A vibrant city full of history and a Turkish heritage, it is often called the ‘Jerusalem of Europe’.

DAY 5
Sarajevo 

We’ll explore Sarajevo on a sightseeing tour this morning. Highlights include the buzzing Turkish bazaar, ‘Bas Carsija’, the Husref Bay’s Mosque and the Gavrilo Princip Museum.

Special Experience: Discover the culinary delights of Sarajevo on a gourmet walking tour. Enjoy a degustation of Bosnian cheeses and smoked meats, as well as a traditional cooked meal at a local restaurant. Relax in a typical tavern and try two types of homemade rakija.

DAY 6
Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik 

We venture south to Mostar, where its famous Ottoman bridge, bustling gold alley and the numerous millhouse restaurants lining the banks of the river set an enchanting scene. Later this afternoon we continue to beautiful Dubrovnik, set against a backdrop of the shimmering Adriatic Sea.

DAY 7
Dubrovnik 

Dubrovnik is one of the most photographed towns on the Mediterranean. This morning we enjoy a walking tour of this historic walled city. Sights will include the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column, Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan Monastery. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. 

Special Experience: Enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals and taste the regional cuisine at a special home-hosted dinner.

DAY 8
Kotor Excursion 

We spend the day touring the tiny country of Montenegro. Admire the beauty of the Dalmatian coast as we drive along the rugged Bay of Kotor, dotted with charming little villages.

DAY 9
Dubrovnik - Hvar 

Today we head north along the spectacular coast to Hvar Island. Take in the views from the panoramic road on the island as we journey to Hvar town. Enjoy the evening at leisure.

DAY 10
Hvar - Split 

See the highlights of this beautiful island on a walking tour this morning, where we enjoy spectacular views from the Hvar Fortress, a medieval castle dating back to before 500BC. We then have a delicious lunch in Vrisnik before catching a ferry to Croatia's second-largest city, Split

DAY 11
Split 

We tour the historic city centre of Split today, which is built around the remains of the world's most impressive Roman monument - the Diocletian's Palace.

Split - Trogir - Plitvice Lakes
 

Today we stop in the town of Trogir, where artists from around the world gather to paint. This afternoon we travel to stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park. These 16 terraced lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours, ranging from azure to green, grey and blue.

Special Experience: Stay overnight right inside the national park, and only 400m from the highest waterfall.

DAY 13
Plitvice Lakes 

This morning we explore the spectacular lower lake section on a guided walking tour that will showcase its magnificent turquoise lakes, waterfalls and cascades.

Or - spend the afternoon at leisure to relax and enjoy the tranquility.

DAY 14
Plitvice Lakes - Opatija 

We travel to the imperial resort town of Opatija. Famous for its grand spa hotels and superb location on the beautiful bay of Kvarner, it is often referred to as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. We’ll take an orientation tour on arrival to learn about its splendid past. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Istrian Peninsula Excursion 

Enjoy a full-day excursion along the beautiful, heart-shaped Istrian Peninsula. Visit Eufrasius Basilica at Poreč, the Roman Amphitheatre in Pula and the charming fishing port of Rovinj.

DAY 16
Opatija - Postojna - Bled 

Today we visit the incredible Postojna Cave, with more than 20km of passages, galleries and chambers. We ride an electric train through the caves discovering two million year old stalagmite and stalactite formations. This afternoon we continue north to fairytale Lake Bled.

DAY 17
Bled 

The region around Bled is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Set amongst stunning mountain peaks and brimming with forests and greenery, waterfalls and streams, it is characterised by the iconic church steeple that perches atop a tiny island in the middle of the lake. Here we enjoy a wonderful sightseeing tour including a visit to Bled Castle, before we visit the lake valley of Bohinj. 

Special Experience: Visit the Alpine Dairy Farming Museum, learn about life of herdsmen in an authentic environment and taste the locally produced cheeses.

DAY 18
Bled 

Optional Walking Discovery: Explore the lush greenery and tranquil waters of Vintgar Gorge this morning. Don’t forget your camera, the scenery will take your breath away!  

Special Experience: Visit the traditional Gingerbread Museum to learn the history of this honey-bread and make your very own gingerbread heart, a symbol of love and passion.

We continue to be immersed in history as we enjoy traditional Slovenian fare for dinner at the museum’s adjoining restaurant.

Bled - Ljubljana - Zagreb 

This morning we depart for the picturesque Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. Take a sightseeing tour here, then get the opportunity to meet a local at the Old Yugoslavia Museum. See Ljubljana from a different angle on a boat ride along the Ljubljanica River. We then head to the picturesque Arboretum Botanical Gardens. Tonight we’ll enjoy a group farewell dinner.

THE PACE  [3 out of 5]
You need to have a good level of fitness and mobility. You should be able to carry your own bags, as porter services are not always available at all hotels, and you should be able to walk 2km on uneven ground and climb several flights of stairs.

Fit to Travel Holiday Requirements

A minimum level of fitness is required to be able to participate. You are required to at least:

  • Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces without the use of any walking aid
  • Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
  • Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
  • Carry your own luggage
  • Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats 

Passengers 70 years or over must provide a signed Fitness to Travel declaration form from their doctor within one month of making their booking.

While we will still confirm your place on your tour, flight tickets cannot be issued until both completed forms have been received. Additional costs may be incurred if completed forms are not received within these time frames.

Generally the operator does not accept bookings for single travellers 80 years of age and over without a travelling companion. Neither our Tour Director nor your fellow travellers are equipped to act as a carer.

Passengers must inform us and the service provider of any medical conditions which may affect your ability to participate in the tour.

At our discretion we, including the service provider, can exclude you in a tour or in any activity if we consider that you are unable to safely participate in that tour or activity or if we consider your participation may place the safety of other guests at risk.

We exclude all liability for any illness, injury or death sustained by you on tour because of any pre-existing medical condition. You release us from all liability arising out of your medical condition, illness, or injury that you may suffer during the tour or as a result of the tour.  

ABOUT THE MEALS   
It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

Please be sure to advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements. We always do our best to accommodate special diet needs and in most cases, special dietary needs can be met. However, in some destinations the variety of choice for certain special diets may be limited. If you are concerned please check with us before you book. 

TOUR DIRECTOR
This is a private group tour with a coach captain and tour director. Your tour escort is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services.

Internet in Europe these days is widely available and broadband services are now very commonplace, as well as being pretty fast. Mobile phone coverage is also widely available in most areas.

You may like to purchase a prepaid sim card to take with you while travelling. Otherwise, ask your phone provider about International Roaming packages/offers for your mobile phone. 

SIM cards or international roaming packages can be good options to keep in touch with friends and family back home.  Be sure the sim card you purchase will cover all the countries you are travelling to.  

Many hotels these days offer WiFi—some for free, others for a modest fee.
