Journey through the iconic countries of Eastern Europe, discovering beautiful cities from Moscow to Vienna all in the company of solo travellers.

Beginning in Moscow with an easy paced three night stay, we visit famous sights such as the Kremlin and St Basil’s Cathedral.   We connect the two iconic cities of Moscow and St Petersburg with the fast train and enjoy another three wonderful nights with outstanding visits including the world-famous Hermitage and Peterhof Summer Palace.

From Russia, we travel through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for highlight stays in Tallin, Riga and Vilnius before travelling to Poland.  In the old Polish cities, Warsaw and Krakow soak up the atmosphere of the Old Towns. From Krakow, travel to Prague, and along the way take in a somber visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. 

Arriving to the Czech Republic’s capital, Prague, you’ll be charmed by this city and her colourful history.  We travel from Prague via the historical city of Cesky Krumlov, with its Baroque churches, promenades, parks and ancient city walls for an overnight stay.

It’s a superb finish to our Eastern European discovery, travelling to Austria including a stay in Salzburg, a cruise along the Danube River and the final of a two night stay in the opulent city of Vienna, enjoying an evening of concert music by Strauss and Mozart.

DAY 1     
Arrive Moscow

On arrival to Moscow, you will be met and transferred to your hotel*.  The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Tonight there will be a welcome drink and tour briefing with your tour Director.

DAY 2               
Moscow

Moscow, one of the largest cities in the world, is the symbolic heart and soul of the country. During your sightseeing tour you will discover the most impressive sights of this marvellous city. Walk in the city centre, drive along the wide boulevards and a stroll through GUM, Russia’s largest department store. Continue, on the north bank of the River Moskva, passing by baroque Novodevichy convent; ending the tour at the popular Arbat shopping district. The rest of the day is at leisure until we meet again for our welcome group dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 3               
Moscow

Your sightseeing tour begins at Red Square, dominated by colorful St. Basil's Cathedral and by the massive red walls of the Kremlin. Visit the Armory Museum, with its impressive collection of Tsarist, Russian, and foreign jewellery, armor, and other artifacts. There’s the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 4                  
Moscow  - St. Petersburg

Today we will travel from Moscow to St Petersburg with the Sapsan train in business class with lunch onboard.  

This afternoon in St Petersburg we visit Visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, built in 1703 to protect the city from enemy attacks. Visit Peter and Paul Cathedral, which towers in the centre of the fortress served as the burial place for Russian Emperors from Peter I.  After our introduction to this opulent city, we then transfer to our hotel for our next three nights of stay.

Tonight, some beautiful dining in St Petersburg.

DAY 5        
St Petersburg

There are not many cities in the world that can match the grace of St. Petersburg. When Peter the Great founded the city in 1703, he hired Europe’s best architects, craftsmen, and artists to build and decorate it. Spread over 100 islands and linked by over 600 bridges, it is often referred to as the “Venice of the North.”

Today the main sites to be visited on the tour are Palace Square with the Winter Palace, Senate Square with the monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great, the founder of the city, St. Isaac’s Square, Smolny Cathedral, Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, and Nevsky Prospect.  Later in the day there’s some free time and the evening at leisure.

DAY 6            
St Petersburg

This morning you’ll make a highlight visit to the world-famous Hermitage, housing more than four million works of art. It ranks among one of the largest and oldest museums of the world, founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great. Admire the world-famous masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Velasquez, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, and French Impressionists. The Hermitage occupies five buildings, the largest is the Winter Palace, the former residence of Russian Emperors. 

In the afternoon you will visit Petrodvorets, Peterhof Summer Palace of Peter the Great. The evening is free to make your own local discoveries for dinner.

DAY 7          
St. Petersburg to Tallin

Today journey to Estonia.

Stop in Narva right across the Russian border in Estonia, with time for a break. Narva is the 3rd largest city in the country and a melting pot of Estonian and Russian cultures. Once a great example of baroque architecture, the town was heavily damaged during the second world war and almost entirely rebuilt. 

We make a visit to Narva Castle Museum, and after there’s free time to leisure, at Rondell restaurant. From here, we continue towards Tallin to arrive later in the afternoon.

DAY 8     
Tallin 

This morning, on a walking tour of Tallinn’s Upper and Lower Old Town, view the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Toompea Castle and the 14th-century gothic Town Hall.  The afternoon is unscheduled with time to do as you wish until dinner tonight at a local restaurant.

DAY 9              
Tallinn - Riga

It’s a morning departure from Tallinn, Estonia to travel to Riga in Latvia.  On the way stop at Sigulda for the visit of Turaida Castle a recently reconstructed medieval castle, then continuing to Riga.

Tonight, join together for dinner.

DAY 10                  
Riga

On a morning sightseeing tour, see Riga Castle, the magnificent Dome Cathedral, St. Jacobs Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, the Parliament building, Liberty Monument, and the district of Art Nouveau houses. Your afternoon and evening are free.

DAY 11          
Riga - Vilnius

Today we depart Latvia for Lithuania for our stay in Vilnius. On our way, we make a superb highlight visit to Rundale Palace and Park, with our visit including the main exposition, the small wing.

There’s free time for lunch in one of the restaurants or coffee shops in the Palace area of Museum.

Before arriving to Vilnius, there is a stop on the Hill of Crosses in northern Lithuania; about 100,000 crosses considered a shrine for people of different nations and religions.

DAY 12             
Vilnius – Warsaw

This morning, a local guide will take us on our city tour.  The city of Vilnius is located on the confluence of the Neris and Velnele Rivers. In Old Vilnius, view St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church and St. Anne’s Church. View Vilnius University, dating back to 1570, Gediminas' Tower in the Upper Town, and Vilnius Castle.

Today it’s a longer day of travel from Lithuania to Poland for our stay in Warsaw the capital of Poland.

DAY 13             
Warsaw

Warsaw, the 700-year-old capital of Poland. The sightseeing tour today includes a drive along the famous Royal Route from magnificent Castle Square to Lazienki Park and Palace, the summer residence of the last king of Poland. Pass by the Palace of Science and Culture (known as a “wedding cake”), the Saxon Gardens, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the Barbican. Then on a walking tour, see the Old Town, Old Market Square, and St. John’s Cathedral. The rest of the day is free for a stroll through the city, shopping, or just relaxing to soak up the atmosphere. This evening, join together for a group dinner.

DAY 14                 
Warsaw - Krakow

We travel from Warsaw to arrive to Krakow. In Krakow this afternoon we visit Wawel Hill, a view of the Royal Castle and  a visit to the Royal Cathedral. Enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town, where you will see the Main Market Square, Renaissance Cloth Hall, and St. Mary's Church.  Tonight, is at your leisure - you may like to enjoy a local café for some bigos or pierogi.

DAY 15                         
Krakow - Prague

The road from Krakow winds through the hills and countryside of Czech Republic. On the way there’s a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, the notorious World War II concentration camp. It is now on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

DAY 16             
Prague

Prague has a long and colorful history, from its early days as a bishopric, to becoming the residence of the Bohemian kings, and later the capital of both Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire. Built across seven hills on both banks of the Vltava River more than 1000 years ago, it is one of the most attractive cities in Europe.

Your sightseeing starts with panoramic drive to famous Wenceslas Square, Strahov Stadium, and Castle Square. Then, on a walking tour, visit the Royal Castle of Hradcany with the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower. Cross the Charles Bridge and walk through the old quarter of Prague to view the Jewish Ghetto, Town Hall and world-famous Astronomical Clock. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Tonight, we dine at a local restaurant.

DAY 17             
Prague - Česky Krumlov

Drive through the unspoiled countryside from Prague to Cesky Krumlov with its Baroque churches, promenades, parks, and ancient city walls. Upon arrival enjoy a sightseeing tour of historical Cesky Krumlov and its old Town. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 18 
Česky Krumlov – Salzburg

This morning, depart towards Salzburg and visit The Hallein Salt Mine and experience the mystical tunnels and a journey back in time.

From the mine, travel to Salzburg, literary “salt fortress” and upon arrival enjoy a sightseeing tour of Salzburg. Salzburg is known for its beautiful baroque architecture and the historic centre of the city is also listed under Unesco world heritage. But Salzburg is also known as the birth place of a world-famous composer W. A. Mozart and the shooting location for the movie “The sound of Music”. After the tour we enjoy dinner in a typical local restaurant.

DAY 19
Salzburg – Vienna

This morning, drive through the Austrian countryside to the city of Melk, where you will board a boat for a panoramic cruise along the Danube river. On the way, you will pass the most beautiful portion of the Danube river, the Wachau valley.  A relaxing lunch is included as you cruise the Danube. The cruise finishes in Krems, where you will be picked up by our coach and continue to Vienna.

DAY 20       
Vienna

A day to enjoy Vienna. On a morning sightseeing tour, visit the Hofburg Palace, once the seat of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Then view the Belvedere Palace, Prater Amusement Park, the UN Buildings, St. Stephen's Cathedral and other reminders of the city’s Imperial History. There’s an afternoon at leisure.

A highlight as we farewell one another and or discovery of Eastern Europe, enjoying a dinner with evening Concert of Strauss’s & Mozart’s music.

THE PACE  [3 out of 5]
This tour includes a reasonable amount of sightseeing on foot and is graded as a medium-paced tour. A reasonable fitness level is required to participate in this tour.

There is an exceptional three night stay in Moscow & St Petersburg, and two nights of stay at some of the other destinations including Tallin, Riga, Warsaw, Prague and Vienna creating a relaxed travel pace.

There is a good balance between group touring and free time to allow the flexibility to make your own discoveries.

The majority of driving days are not too long, with convenient stops at places of interest along the way for refreshments and sightseeing.

Touring Physical Requirements
Touring is exciting and diverse and the best way to enjoy your travels is to be sure that you meet the minimum physical requirements required for touring.

In many destinations while touring could be walking on uneven surfaces such as cobble stoned streets, need to climb steep staircases, and/or walk up hills to reach attractions. Also, in some cities tourist transport has limited options for coach drop offs and pick ups and this may mean that travellers are required to walk some distance to reach attractions or hotels, even up to 15 minutes.

Some touring may not be suitable for travellers with mobility issues and/or low fitness levels.  If unsure about your suitability for the trip please contact us to seek further advice. 

Travellers of 70 years or over will be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor. Travellers of any age with certain pre-existing medical conditions may be required to have a doctor complete our Fit to Travel form. 

ABOUT THE MEALS   
It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

There is a mix of dining at local restaurants and the hotels of stay.

GROUP GUIDE
This is a private group tour with a coach driver and English speaking, locally based tour director. Your tour escort commences their services from the beginning of the tour in Budapest, and is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services. 

In addition, local guides are included for major sightseeing tours as detailed by the itinerary.

TRANSPORT
Touring is by a private air-conditioned coach. Other transport includes the Sapsan fast train in Russia with business class tickets, and a river cruise in Austria.

LUGGAGE INFORMATION AND RESTRICTIONS
One large suitcase per person.  Luggage limits are restricted as the coaches can allow for one piece per person with a limit of 23kg. One piece of hand luggage permitted for touring.

You must be able to porter your own bags as porterage is not included at the airports or train station. Porterage is included at the hotels for one piece of luggage.

Where entrances are included we don’t guarantee the entrances to churches/cathedrals or any other site due to sudden closure for such events like a mass, wedding, special event. 

Please note that we can’t take responsibility of delay and changes in the timing du to traffic and weather conditions.

ABOUT MOBILE PHONE USE / INTERNET 
Internet in Europe these days is widely available and broadband services are now very commonplace, as well as being fairly fast mobile phone coverage is also widely available in most areas. 

You may like to purchase a prepaid sim card to take with you while travelling. Otherwise, ask your phone provider about International Roaming packages/offers for your mobile phone. 

SIM cards or international roaming packages can be good options to keep in touch with friends and family back home.  Be sure the sim card you purchase will cover all the countries you are travelling to.  

Many hotels these days offer WiFi—some for free, others for a modest fee.

If you don’t already use this service, we recommend downloading this application also. It’s a mobile phone App that offers fast, simple, secure messaging and calling for free (data charges may apply – ask your phone provider).

As a general indication, for many of our tours, our guides use WhatsApp to communicate with the group.
