Beginning in Budapest, the cosmopolitan city of the Danube, then onto Vienna where you will discover the history of this magical city, and not to be missed an evening of concert music by Strauss and Mozart.    We travel to Prague via the historical city of Cesky Krumlov for an overnight stay and taking in the charm of the old city, and in Prague, uncover the city’s long and colourful history.

From Prague, a sombre visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, and stays in the old Polish cities of Krakow and Warsaw. From Poland, we make our way to St Petersburg, visiting Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn  before arriving in St Petersburg for a wonderful three night stay.  In Russia, we connect the two iconic cities by fast train, completing our journey in Moscow, where we visit famous sights such as the Kremlin and St Basil’s Cathedral.

DAY 1 
Arrive Budapest

On arrival to Budapest, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Tonight there will be a welcome drink and tour briefing with your tour Director.

DAY 2 

Set on opposite banks of the Danube River, the former cities of Buda and Pest are linked by a series of graceful bridges.

This morning, a sightseeing tour includes views of the Parliament building; Vaci Utca, a pedestrian street lined with shops and restaurants; Heroes' Square with the Millennium Column (a 118-foot-high Corinthian column topped with a statue of the archangel Gabriel), and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Tonight, we come together to enjoy a welcome three course dinner.

DAY 3   
Budapest - Vienna

Today, continue the journey west through the Transdanubian region and cross the border into Austria to arrive to Vienna. After a relaxing afternoon at leisure, enjoy a dinner with an evening concert listening to Strauss and Mozart.

DAY 4   

On a morning sightseeing tour, visit the Hofburg Palace, once the seat of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Then view the Belvedere Palace, Prater Amusement Park, the UN Buildings, St Stephen's Cathedral and other reminders of the city’s Imperial History.  Vienna’s a beautiful city and you’ll have the afternoon free to make your own explorations.

DAY 5   
Vienna – Česky Krumlov

We depart Vienna and this morning to Cesky Krumlov, a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.   On arrival, there’s the chance of an easy-paced tour of the Old Town.

We meet tonight for dinner together.

DAY 6   
Česky Krumlov - Prague

Today as we make our way to Prague, enjoy the unspoiled countryside with its Baroque churches, promenades, parks, and ancient city walls.

DAY 7   

Prague has a long and colourful history, from its early days as a bishopric, to becoming the residence of the Bohemian kings, and later the capital of both Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire. Built across seven hills on both banks of the Vltava River more than 1000 years ago, it is one of the most attractive cities in Europe.

Your sightseeing starts with a panoramic drive to famous Wenceslas Square, Strahov Stadium, and Castle Square. Then, on a walking tour, visit the Royal Castle of Hradcany with the Cathedral of St Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and the Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower. Cross the Charles Bridge and walk through the old quarter of Prague to view the Jewish Ghetto, Town Hall and world-famous Astronomical Clock. The rest of the day is at leisure. You may like to attend an optional cultural performance.

Dinner tonight is in a local restaurant.

DAY 8   

The road to Krakow winds through the hills and countryside of Czech Republic and into the rolling plains of Poland. On the way, our tour stops at Auschwitz-Birkenau, the notorious World War II concentration camp. It is now on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. We end our day arriving to Krakow, and tonight a relaxed evening at leisure.

DAY 9   

Your sightseeing tour today starts with a visit to Wawel Hill, viewing the Royal Castle and visiting the Royal Cathedral. Enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town, where you will see the Main Market Square, Renaissance Cloth Hall, and St Mary's Church. The afternoon is free for a stroll around the city, shopping, or maybe settle into a little café and sample some bigos, a Polish dish like a stew, or pierogi, the renowned dumplings you’ll find in Eastern Europe. We continue to Warsaw, the 700-year-old capital of Poland.

Enjoy dinner tonight at a local restaurant.

DAY 10 

Today, our tour includes a drive along the famous Royal Route from magnificent Castle Square to Lazienki Park and Palace, the summer residence of the last king of Poland. Pass by the Palace of Science and Culture (known as a “wedding cake”), the Saxon Gardens, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the Barbican. Then on a walking tour, see the Old Town, Old Market Square, and St John’s Cathedral.

The rest of the day is free for a stroll through the city, shopping, relaxing, or perhaps attend an optional late afternoon Chopin concert.

DAY 11 
Warsaw –Vilnius

Today’s a longer day of travel from Poland to Lithuania to arrive to the city of Vilnius located at the meeting point of the Neris and Velnele Rivers.

Vilnius – Riga

In Old Vilnius, view St Peter and St Paul’s Church and St Anne’s Church. View Vilnius University, dating back to 1570, Gediminas' Tower in the Upper Town, and Vilnius Castle.

This afternoon we travel to Riga, the capital of Latvia and one of the Baltic States.

DAY 13 

On a morning sightseeing tour, see Riga Castle, the magnificent Dome Cathedral, St Jacobs Cathedral, St Peter’s Church, the Parliament building, Liberty Monument, and the district of Art Nouveau houses. Your afternoon and evening are free to explore this charming Baltic city.

DAY 14 
Riga – Tallinn

This morning we depart from Riga to Tallinn. On the way, stopping at Sigulda for the visit of Turaida Castle museum, featuring Turaida Castle, a recently reconstructed medieval castle.

Continue to Tallinn, where you will enjoy dinner with the group.

DAY 15 

Today, on a walking tour of Tallinn’s Upper and Lower Old Town, view the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Toompea Castle and the 14th-century gothic Town Hall.  The afternoon is at your leisure.

Tallinn – St. Petersburg

Today’s journey takes us to Russia where we have a three night highlight stay.

St. Petersburg

There are not many cities in the world that can match the grace of St Petersburg. When Peter the Great founded the city in 1703, he hired Europe’s best architects, craftsmen, and artists to build and decorate it. Spread over 100 islands and linked by over 600 bridges, it is often referred to as the “Venice of the North.” Today the main sites to be visited on the tour are Palace Square with the Winter Palace, Senate Square with the monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great, the founder of the city, St Isaac’s Square, Smolny Cathedral, Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, and Nevsky Prospect. Visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, built in 1703 to protect the city from enemy attacks. Visit Peter and Paul Cathedral, which towers in the centre of the fortress served as the burial place for Russian Emperors from Peter I.

Tonight come together to enjoy dinner in St Petersburg.

DAY 18
St. Petersburg

This morning you’ll make a highlight visit to the world-famous Hermitage, housing more than four million works of art. It ranks among one of the largest and oldest museums of the world, founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great. Admire the world-famous masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Velasquez, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, and French Impressionists. The Hermitage occupies five buildings, the largest is the Winter Palace, the former residence of Russian Emperors.  In the afternoon you will visit Petrodvorets, Peterhof Summer Palace of Peter the Great.

DAY 19
St. Petersburg – Moscow

Today we will travel from St Petersburg to Moscow by high speed train. Upon arrival to Moscow we transfer to our hotel.

DAY 20

Moscow, one of the largest cities in the world, is the symbolic heart and soul of the country.

During your sightseeing tour you will discover the most impressive sights of this marvellous city. Walk in the city centre, drive along the wide boulevards and a stroll through GUM, Russia’s largest department store. Continue, on the north bank of the River Moskva, passing by baroque Novodevichy convent; ending the tour at the popular Arbat shopping district. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 21

Your sightseeing tour begins at Red Square, dominated by colourful St Basil's Cathedral and by the massive red walls of the Kremlin. Visit the Armory Museum, with its impressive collection of Tsarist, Russian, and foreign jewellery, armour, and other artifacts.

The rest of the day is at your leisure. And tonight, a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

If we are not able to offer you a roommate match, a 'Reduced Single Supplement' price will be offered. This represents a $600 saving on the standard single supplement price. Alternatively, you have the option to decline and receive a full refund of your tour deposit.

If you are not prepared to pay for a Reduced Single Supplement we recommend you should not pay for the airfare until you have a guaranteed roommate match and this is advised by us in writing. This supplement becomes due after we finalise the group and before departure.  The Reduced Single Supplement offer only applies to bookings secured with a deposit by Thursday 7 June 2018.

Please note: if a roommate becomes available after receiving advice of a Reduce Single Supplement rate, your booking automatically reverts to the twin share price and any monies paid for the Reduced Single Supplement will be refunded.

Early Check In

If your flight departs after the hotel check out time we recommend that you make an enquiry with us about securing a late check out with payment.  Some hotels will require payment in full of the next night of stay while others may have a rate for a late check out such as a payment to extend check out until 6pm as an example.

THE PACE  [3 out of 5]
This tour includes a reasonable amount of sightseeing on foot and is graded as a medium-paced tour. A reasonable fitness level is required to participate in this tour.

There is an exceptional three night stay in St Petersburg, and two nights of stay at some of the  other destinations such as Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Tallin, Riga and Moscow creating a relaxed tour pace.

The majority of driving days are not too long, with convenient stops at places of interest along the way for refreshments and sightseeing.

Minimum Mobility Requirements - The Need To Walk
A number of tours visit a variety of medieval hilltop towns which may have some steep, uneven cobbled stone streets or castles, and attractions with steep staircases and no lifts. Additionally some larger cities only provide coach passenger drop off points 15 minutes or so walk from the old town centres. Please note: this need to walk from coach drop off points in some European towns and cities is common to ALL Tour Operators. A reasonable amount of walking will be involved, and our tours do require a certain level of fitness and mobility. These tours are not suitable for people with walking difficulties or limitations. If unsure please call our office for further clarification.

It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

This is a private group tour with a coach driver and English speaking, locally based tour director. Your tour escort commences their services from Italy and is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services.  A tour escort is not included for the travel arrangements to/from Italy.

In addition, local guides are included for major sightseeing tours as detailed by the itinerary.

Touring is by a private air-conditioned coach.

One large suitcase per person.  Luggage limits are restricted as the coaches can allow for one piece per person with a limit of 23kg.
