Mexico City is a fascinating place and many world class museums can be found here including the Anthropological Museum, Frida Kahlo Museum, Templo Mayor Museum, Bellas Artes Museum and Leon Trotsky’s house to name a few. The sightseeing program in Mexico City is quite full so if you have an interest in visiting any of these museums we would recommend booking at least 2 nights pre tour accommodation to give you time to see those places that may be of particular interest to you.

DAY 2
Mexico City

Our day begins with a tour of bustling Mexico City. We visit the Zocalo - the main city square - constructed from the stones of ancient palaces and temples, and the National Palace. 

Special Experience: Board an authentic Mexican trajinera for a traditional lunch and cruise through the waterways of Xochimilco. 

On our return to the city, we’ll stop to explore a colourful arts and crafts market. Tonight we enjoy a group welcome dinner.

DAY 3
Mexico City

After breakfast, we visit the site of Teotihuacan, considered one of the most impressive and mysterious archaeological sites in Mexico. The city was established in 100BC and the name Teotihuacan roughly translates as ‘Birthplace of the Gods’. We also visit the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe today, arguably the most important Christian pilgrimage site in Latin America.

DAY 4
Mexico City - Tuxtla - San Cristóbal

This morning we fly to Tuxtla and continue to Chiapa de Corzo and the spectacular Sumidero Canyon, which we’ll tour by boat. Enjoy lunch before we travel to charming San Cristóbal.

San Cristóbal

Special Experience: In the mountains surrounding San Cristóbal, we visit the indigenous villages of San Juan Chamula and Zincantan to learn about the Mayan culture and traditions still alive today.

DAY 6
San Cristóbal - Palenque

Driving through lush, green valleys, we travel to Palenque through the Tabasco region, stopping for lunch. Along the way we'll visit the beautiful turquoise waterfall of Roberto Barrios, cascading to form pools perfect for swimming.

DAY 7
Palenque - Villahermosa - Merida 

Spend the morning discovering the incredible ancient Mayan site of Palenque, boasting several magnificent pyramids. In parts, it is still covered in lush, tropical jungle. This afternoon we'll fly to the historic 'White City' of Merida.

DAY 8
Merida - Chichén Itzá - Playa Del Carmen 

Another amazing day of antiquities - this morning we depart for Chichén Itzá, the most famous of all Mayan sites and home to the enormous step-pyramid of Kulkulkan.

Playa Del Carmen

Enjoy a day at leisure in sunny Playa del Carmen. This evening we'll enjoy a group dinner to farewell Mexico.

Havana 

Special Experience: Step back in time to the 60s and discover the history and charm of Old Havana on a walking tour this morning. 

This afternoon we'll witness the contrasts of 'New' Havana, including the artistic areas of Hamel Island, Fusterland and the Fort of Havana.

DAY 12
Havana - Viñales

Today we'll marvel at the incredible valley dotted with limestone hills, known as magotes, as we travel through the beautiful region of Viñales.

Special Experience: Visit a tobacco field and drying house to learn more about the production of cigars before lunch with some locals. 

DAY 13
Viñales - Cienfuegos

Today we travel to the busy, colonial-era port of Cienfuegos, the ‘Pearl of the South’. Along the way we'll stop at the infamous Bay of Pigs, where the failed US Military invasion of 1961 was undertaken.

Cienfuegos

This morning we’ll discover beautiful Cienfuegos on a walking tour, visiting the impressive Teatro Tomás Terry and the historic town centre. In the afternoon we'll cruise to the end of the bay to visit Jagua Castle and wander through the village.

DAY 15
Cienfuegos - Trinidad 

On the way to Trinidad we’ll stop to discover El Nicho National Park, home to Cuba’s most spectacular waterfalls. Tonight we'll enjoy an evening of music and dancing, Cuban-style, at Casa de la Trova.

Trinidad

Wander the cobblestone streets of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Trinidad and discover its colonial past. This perfectly preserved settlement is one of Cuba’s most enchanting cities. We'll also stop at the famous Canchanchara Bar.

Trinidad – Havana

We return to Havana, visiting the Che Guevara Mausoleum in Santa Clara along the way.

HOTEL MOKA, LAS TERRAZAS
Hotel Moka is set amid the forested hills of Las Terrazas, 49 miles west of Havana. The design is contemporary Spanish-colonial and features a multi-tiered atrium lobby built around a large lime tree - its branches disappear through the skylight. Some of the rooms even have trees growing through their balconies and ceilings. Each room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows with French doors leading onto a terra-cotta tiled balcony with a spectacular view of the forest. Hotel Moka also has a restaurant, bar, and a lovely swimming pool surrounded by trees.

THE PACE  [3 out of 5]
A moderate to faster pace. There are some days with early starts and full days of touring.  There are 1 and 2 nights of stay for this itinerary.

Travellers of 70 years or over will be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor.

Fit to Travel Holiday Requirements
A minimum level of fitness is required to be able to participate on a Bunnik Tour, you are required to at least:

  • Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces without the use of any walking aid
  • Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
  • Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
  • Carry your own luggage
  • Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Passengers 70 years or over must provide a signed Fitness to Travel declaration form from their doctor within one month of making their booking.

While we will still confirm your place on your tour, flight tickets cannot be issued until both completed forms have been received. Additional costs may be incurred if completed forms are not received by Bunnik Tours within these time frames.

Bunnik Tours generally does not accept bookings for single travellers 80 years of age and over without a travelling companion. Neither our Tour Director nor your fellow travellers are equipped to act as a carer.

Passengers must inform us and the service provider of any medical conditions which may affect your ability to participate in the tour.

At our discretion we, including the service provider, can exclude you in a tour or in any activity if we consider that you are unable to safely participate in that tour or activity or if we consider your participation may place the safety of other guests at risk.

We exclude all liability for any illness, injury or death sustained by you on tour because of any pre-existing medical condition. You release us from all liability arising out of your medical condition, illness, or injury that you may suffer during the tour or as a result of the tour. 

ABOUT THE MEALS   
It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

Please be sure to advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements. We always do our best to accommodate special diet needs and in most cases, special dietary needs can be met. However, in some destinations the variety of choice for certain special diets may be limited. If you are concerned please check with us before you book.

GROUP GUIDE/S
This is a private group tour with locally based guides through the itinerary. Your guide is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services.
