Poo Pinchers Hit Hotels Across The Globe

Poo Pinching

With homelessness in Australia reported at 1 in 200 people on any given night, by Homeless Australia, the practical needs for the homeless is a growing concern for our wider community.

And this is where Pinchapoo, an Australian charity, has cleverly founded an utterly simple concept to aid the plight of the homeless in Australia. ‘Pinch’ the shampoos and toiletries provided in your hotel room, and donate them to those who need them most.

“Passing on soap for a shower is a simple gesture, but it means so much more. Donations allow homeless men to shower, shave and deodorise for the first time in weeks. They provide women sleeping rough with personal sanitary products.” said Kate Austin, founder of Pinchapoo.

I instantly connected with the concept. If my bathroom draw is like any other traveller’s, then there’s a stash of gold in hotel toiletry products, just waiting to be posted to Pinchapoo.

For aspiring Poo Pinchers, just remember that it has to be new items due to health regulations. Once you are home from your travels, visit their website  to find where to donate or post your stash of goodies.

There’s a list of essential items that they need for their cause;  shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, brushes/combs, shower gel, moisturiser, tooth brushes and paste, tissues, women’s sanitary products, deodorants, sun screen and baby care items. And, you don’t have to stop there.  Non-essential items are most welcomed including; skin and body care products, nail polish, toiletry bags and fragrances.

Check out your bathroom cupboards and draws. Australia Post makes it easy with over the counter pre-paid satchels that don’t cost too much. Then, post away.

If you are a traveller with a heart for ‘giving back’, this is one idea that is easy to put into action. And remember, you’ve paid for those hotel toiletries when you paid for your hotel room, so ‘pinch-away’.

I love that this charity can ask for non-financial support and make a difference to so many, and on our home ground.
