'Thank you for your organisation of a great holiday. As a first time traveller with Encounter, I didn't know what to expect. The Red Centre is indescribably beautiful and should be on every Australians' bucket list. We saw every sensational attraction in just the right order - each new experience was more incredible than the last. Thank you for recruiting such a great group of people for my travelling companions. The hotels were clean and very comfortable and it was a pleasure to be transported across such an amazing landscape so comfortably. I learnt so much about our wonderful country and wished I had done such a trip years earlier.'

DAY 1

Marsaxlokk & Ancient Malta

Welcome to Malta. This morning is at leisure before we meet our guide and fellow travellers around lunchtime.

Our first afternoon introduces us to the colourful fishing village of Marsaxlokk. The bright painted fishing boats known as luzzus line the harbour and create one of Malta's most recognisable postcard scenes. We enjoy a welcome lunch together overlooking the waterfront before continuing to one of Malta's most significant archaeological treasures.

This afternoon we visit Ħaġar Qim, one of Malta's UNESCO World Heritage-listed megalithic temples. Dating back more than 5,000 years, the site stands dramatically on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean and provides a fascinating introduction to Malta's ancient past.

After our touring, we return to our hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure.

DAY 2

Valletta & The Three Cities

Encounter Moment

Standing within Valletta's magnificent St John's Co-Cathedral and admiring one of Caravaggio's masterpieces.

Following breakfast, we set out to explore Valletta, Malta's elegant capital city and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed treasure.

Valletta is often described as an open-air museum. Built by the Knights of St John during the 16th century, its grand architecture, historic streets and impressive fortifications reveal centuries of fascinating history. We visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens for sweeping views across the Grand Harbour before exploring the magnificent St John's Co-Cathedral.

Following lunch together, we continue to the Three Cities - Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua. These historic fortified cities played a vital role in Malta's maritime and military history and offer a more intimate glimpse into local life away from Valletta's bustling streets.

This afternoon we stroll through narrow laneways lined with churches, palaces and centuries-old buildings before returning to our hotel.

Enjoy a relaxed morning before we depart later in the day to explore some of Malta's most fascinating inland towns.

Our first stop is Mosta, home to one of Malta's most remarkable churches. Inspired by Rome's Pantheon, the famous Mosta Dome became known worldwide during World War II when a bomb crashed through the dome during a service but failed to explode.

From here we continue to Rabat, a charming town rich in medieval character. Its narrow streets, historic buildings and local atmosphere offer a wonderful contrast to the coastal areas of Malta.

Later we arrive in Mdina, Malta's ancient capital and one of the country's most beautiful locations. Known as the Silent City, Mdina's peaceful streets, grand stone buildings and elevated position create a truly memorable experience.

Encounter Moment
Watching the sun begin to soften across Malta's ancient walled city as we enjoy a special group dinner in historic Mdina.

DAY 4

Gozo Discovery & Cooking Experience

Gozo is Malta's smaller sister island and offers a noticeably different atmosphere. Greener, quieter and more rural, it provides a fascinating contrast to Malta.

Encounter Moment
Sharing a hands-on cooking experience while discovering the flavours and traditions of Gozo.

Upon arrival we enjoy a special culinary experience that introduces us to traditional Gozitan cuisine. Our experience includes a market visit through Independence Square and St George's Square, where we gain insight into local ingredients and traditions. We then participate in a hands-on cooking experience before enjoying the meal we have helped prepare.

Later we visit Victoria, Gozo's capital. Here we explore the historic Citadel, a fortified complex that has overlooked the island for centuries.

This evening we settle into our Gozo accommodation.

We visit Xlendi Bay, one of the island's most picturesque coastal villages, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. We continue to Wied il-Mielaħ, a spectacular natural limestone formation that has become one of Gozo's most photographed landmarks.

Later we explore the dramatic Dwejra region. Highlights include the Inland Sea, a unique lagoon connected to the Mediterranean by a natural rock tunnel, and Fungus Rock, a striking offshore limestone formation once prized by the Knights of Malta.

Throughout the day we pass through traditional villages where daily life continues much as it has for generations. By late afternoon we return by ferry to Malta.

This evening we enjoy a highlight dinner together in the city of Valletta.

We continue to Mnajdra, one of Malta's most significant prehistoric temple complexes. Overlooking the sea, these remarkable structures date back thousands of years and demonstrate the sophistication of Malta's ancient civilisations.

Our exploration continues at Tarxien, considered the most complex of Malta's temple sites and one of the country's most important archaeological treasures.

Encounter Moment
Enjoying local flavours and stories during our brewery experience, a unique insight into modern Maltese culture.

First Day
The tour commences shortly prior to lunch time, Day 1.

Most travellers travelling from Australia, New Zealand and many international gateways will require a pre-tour overnight stay in Malta in order to arrive in time for the commencement of the tor.

We strongly recommend arriving at least one day prior to the start of the tour. This not only provides sufficient time to reach the group hotel before the tour begins but also provides a valuable buffer should there be any unexpected airline delays or disruptions.

Pre-tour accommodation is available at the group hotel, subject to availability and additional cost.

Final Day
There are no scheduled touring activities on the final day. Following breakfast, travellers are free to depart at their leisure according to their flight arrangements.

Group Leader & Guides

This is a privately operated small group tour with a professional local tour guide throughout the touring program.

Your tour guide is responsible for the day-to-day arrangements of the tour, coordinating services and assisting the group throughout the journey.

The role of your tour guide is to help ensure the trip runs smoothly, while bringing the history, culture and stories of Malta and Gozo to life through local knowledge and insight.

Dietary requirements can sometimes limit available meal choices, particularly in smaller destinations and regional areas.

If you consider yourself a flexitarian, for example you generally eat vegetarian meals but may still eat fish or chicken, please let us know. Providing accurate dietary information helps us and our suppliers offer the best possible dining experiences throughout your holiday.

Tipping

Tipping is not included in your tour package.

In Malta, tipping is a customary way of recognising good service within the tourism industry. To make things simple, a tipping fund is used for the group to cover some of the tipping arrangements throughout the tour The Tipping Fund
At the beginning of your tour, a tipping fund is collected by your Tour Director and managed on behalf of the group. The fund is used throughout the journey to tip drivers, local guides, restaurant staff and other service personnel included as part of the tour. Your Tour Director
As the Tour Director manages the tipping fund on behalf of the group, their gratuity is not included within the fund. If you would like to recognise their care, professionalism and support throughout your holiday, it is customary to offer a personal tip at the end of the tour. While any gratuity remains entirely at your discretion, we understand that many travellers appreciate some guidance. A tip of approximately €5-€7 per person, per day is generally considered appropriate for a Tour Director in Malta.

Transport throughout the itinerary is provided by private vehicle and ferry services.
