This morning, transfer from your overnight hotel to re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train, for the continuing journey enjoying SilverLeaf class through to Banff. The transfer from the hotel back to the rail station is part of a shared service provided by Rocky Mountaineer. Enjoy breakfast and lunch on board.

Continue to take in a spectacular array of scenery as you travel across ranch lands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Today’s highlights include Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels and, of course, the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Crossing into the province of Alberta, we arrive late afternoon in the peaceful resort town of Banff. There’s a short coach transfer to our group hotel, where we stay for the next two nights. The evening is at your leisure.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

In the morning enjoy a private sightseeing tour of the town of Banff and its surrounds. You can expect to see, amongst others, the Hoodoos, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls, Banff Springs Hotel, Sulphur Mountain, Lake Minnewanka and Tunnel Mountain Drive. In the afternoon you will have free time to explore the town on your own or for optional activities. In the evening, the group enjoys a relaxing dinner at the hotel, or a restaurant within walking distance.

Banff - Lake Louise

Leaving Banff National Park behind for Lake Louise, today’s tour leads into Yoho National Park. Yoho, named for a Cree word expressing awe, is a park of rock walls, waterfalls and glacial lakes, snow-topped mountain peaks, roaring rivers and silent forests. It's a park whose history is bound up with a railroad; spiral tunnels inside mountains and stories of runaway trains. Stops will be made at the natural rock bridge spanning the Kicking Horse River and Emerald Lake. See spiral tunnels, hear about the Continental Divide and walk to Takakkaw Falls, with a free fall of 254 metres, the third highest waterfall in Canada.

Enjoy a very special treat today: The Traditional Afternoon Tea at Fairmont Resort Lake Louise.  It includes tea, sandwiches and scones as well as fruit and chocolate in a serene and quiet setting. Enjoy the afternoon in this superb setting with the famous lake and Victoria Glacier backdrop.

Meals: Breakfast, Afternoon Tea

Lake Louise to Jasper

Today we travel by coach on one of the most scenic highways in North America; the Icefield Parkway. En route stops will be made at Bow and Peyto Lakes before arriving at Columbia Icefield. It covers an area of nearly 325 square kilometres and reaches a depth of 320 metres. Enjoy Ice Explorer Glacier Tour, the ride onto the Athabasca Glacier. Along the way stops will be made to take pictures or view wildlife. This highway is renowned for sightings of bear, elk, moose & mountain goats. The last stops will be at Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls before arriving to our hotel in Jasper, where we enjoy a relaxing two night stay.

Meals: Breakfast

The morning is at leisure with time to explore the small town of Jasper.

Later in the morning our group embarks on a gentle two and a half hour rafting tour on the Athabasca River for a unique perspective of Jasper National Park. In the afternoon the group is picked up for a half day wildlife tour to Maligne Canyon. There’s a walk alongside the stunning gorge before Maligne Lake is reached. The late afternoon or early evening is the best time to see wildlife and learn more about Jasper’s original inhabitants of bear, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, coyotes, wolves, moose and many other small and big mountain creatures.

Dinner tonight with your fellow travellers at the hotel or a restaurant within walking distance.

Jasper - Sun Peaks

Today we cross the Yellowhead Pass heading west passing Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Drive via Valemount at the end of the 1300 km journey for salmon migrating up the Fraser River. Continue south west to Clearwater and the beautiful Wells Gray Park, a vast wilderness area and a paradise for nature lovers. Wells Gray Park offers numerous trails and view points to explore including Helmcken Falls, Dawson Falls and Spahat Falls which are just a few of the many natural wonders of the park. We continue our journey south to Sun Peaks Resort for our overnight stay and dinner together tonight.

What Is Solos Only?

THE PACE  [2 out of 5]
On tour in Canada it’s considered an easy to moderate pace with some free time included throughout your tour. There are some days of long distance travel. While cruising, the only set group activity is the evening dinner in the main dining room.

Travellers of 75 years or over, or those with pre existing medical conditions may be required to return a Fit to Travel form that is completed by their doctor.

It’s regular that our trips include welcome dinners and farewell dinners for our groups. In addition, we include other group dining experiences to ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefit of travelling and dining as a group.  There’s nothing better than to share a meal with new friends and discuss the day’s adventures.

While on board Quantum of the Seas, there is set group dining time in the main restaurant of the ship.

Please be sure to advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements. We always do our best to accommodate special diet needs and in most cases, special dietary needs can be met. However, in some destinations the variety of choice for certain special diets may be limited. If you are concerned please check with us before you book.

Are you a flexitarian?
If you have dietary requirements, please advise if it is due to allergies or for medical reasons or if it is a personal preference and if you are flexible. Dietary requirements will limit choices. If a dietary requirement is not essential due to medical reasons and you are a flexitarian, then we recommend that you exclude your personal preferences if not necessary to provide more options with the meal choices.

In Canada, it is a private group tour with a driver and tour director for your touring in Canada. Your tour escort is there to assist with group arrangements and to act as the liaison for all tour services.  During the 2 day Rocky Mountaineer journey the group escort will be travelling in Silver Leaf Class. After your tour through Canada, you embark on a cruise to Alaska. No group escort services are included however group dining in the main dining room is arranged each evening.

Tipping is customary in Canada and United States of America. Tips have been included for your tour director and driver on your Canada tour and for your cruise. Tipping is not included for Rocky Mountaineer service personnel. You should allow a budget to tip the train personnel for the 2 day journey.

While on tour in Canada travel is by private vehicle. There are also two days travel during the day by train on the Rocky Mountaineer.  Departing from Seattle, there is a return cruise.

Each guest is permitted to travel with one bag, limit of 22kg as a maximum per bag. Please consider that flights for your tour may have a lesser allowance.

Most hotels in Canada offer Wifi.
Onboard the ship, Wifi is available for a per day charge.  Prices can vary depending on the package.

You may like to purchase a prepaid sim card to take with you while travelling. Otherwise, ask your phone provider about International Roaming packages/offers for your mobile phone.  SIM cards or international roaming packages can be good options to keep in touch with friends and family back home.  Be sure the sim card you purchase will cover all the countries you are travelling to.

Many hotels these days offer WiFi—some for free, others for a modest fee.

If you don’t already use this service, we recommend downloading this application also. It’s a mobile phone App that offers fast, simple, secure messaging and calling for free (data charges may apply – ask your phone provider). As a general indication, for many of our tours, our guides use WhatsApp to communicate with the group.
